fix(desktop): import pre-account v1 workspaces on machines that land straight on v2 - #7649
Conversation
…straight on v2 An install that held v1 data without an account (1.25) and created its account after the v2-only cutoff boots directly onto the v2 surface. There the auto-migration only ran the groups backfill unless a follow-up flag or the (disabled) forced-flip backstop was set, so runV1Migration never ran: local.db kept every project/worktree/workspace row while host.db, which the v2 board reads, only had what the user created or re-opened on v2. The v2 surface now runs the full ledger-guarded pass whenever the org's migration has not completed and local.db still holds v1 projects or workspaces. It is idempotent, never deletes, and links to projects the user already re-opened on v2. Completion reached on v2 no longer arms the flip welcome card, continuity restore, or the first-completion follow-up, since no flip happens.
📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe migration flow now plans full or groups-only v2 surface passes. It evaluates v1 data after acquiring the run lock. Completion can avoid arming v1-surface handoff flags when migration runs on v2 cloud. ChangesV2 Surface Migration

Small pre-existing prose violations in touched pages were corrected to satisfy the SOP. - git diff --check: passed. Only apps/docs/content/docs/ and the required append-only root TODO log are included. No push or PR. 37 PRs drove changes; 66 were deliberately skipped as separate documentation work. * docs: correct stale claims and consolidate weekly updates Replace outdated remote-port and privacy claims, correct the 90-day leaderboard backfill cap and link settings location, and describe credential use and comment-watch registration accurately. Consolidate iPhone requirements and troubleshooting, trim repeated Pages prose, and keep launch effort details in the CLI reference. Remove the #7764 startup entry because it does not identify a fixed release and its upgrade instructions are too vague. This supersedes that item in the original PR audit. Validate with docs typecheck, lint:fix, lint, Vale (zero errors or warnings), and git diff --check. * docs: trim repeated explanations across user guides * docs: clarify iPhone cloud workspace requirements

Summary
local.dbbut never reachedhost.db, which the v2 board and sidebar read.local.dbstill holds v1 projects or workspaces. Affected users get their workspaces back on the next launch with no manual steps. Why / Context
runV1Migrationis the only thing that copieslocal.dbprojects, worktrees and workspaces intohost.db.V1AutoMigrationruns it on the v1 surface, and on the v2 surface only when a follow-up flag is set or the forced-flip backstop is active (V1_FORCED_FLIP_VERSIONisnull, so never). An account created after the v2-only cutoff is
isV2OnlyUser, so the app boots directly onto v2. Neither condition holds, only the groups backfill runs, and the import is skipped forever. File > Open Project then creates the project row plus a defaultmainworkspace inhost.db, which matches the report: no duplicate project, but none of the old worktree workspaces. The old gate assumed a machine only reaches v2 after completing the migration or through a forced flip. v2-only accounts, explicit opt-in and dev builds all break that assumption.
How It Works
planV2SurfacePass({ followUpPending, migrationComplete, hasV1Data })inlib/v1-migration/pass.tsreturns"full"or"groups-only".V1AutoMigrationreads the completion marker and, only when incomplete with no follow-up, probesreadV1Projects/readV1Workspacesfor v1 rows. v1 data present means the full pass; an emptylocal.dbstays groups-only so v2-native users do not get v1 default presets imported.markV1MigrationCompletetakes{ armFlipHandoff }. Completion reached on v2 no longer arms the flip welcome card, the continuity redirect, or the first-completion follow-up, because no flip happens.Manual QA Checklist

settings.getTerminalPresetscan return v1 defaults, so a blanket full pass would import presets for brand-new v2 users.Known Limitations
no-worktree-on-disk, andreadV1Projectsstill excludes projects with a nulltab_order, so an affected user may get back fewer than every row inlocal.db.local.db, fullhost.db) is a different state and is not addressed here.Follow-ups
local.dbrepeats two cheap local reads on every boot.Risks / Rollout
host.db; it never deletes or rewriteslocal.db. Ledger rows already marked done are not redone on v2, so workspaces deleted in v2 stay deleted.host.dband are harmless; no data recovery needed.Summary by cubic
Users who updated from a pre-account v1 install and created an account after the v2-only cutoff only saw the workspaces they made on v2; their pre-existing worktree workspaces never reached
host.db, which the v2 board and sidebar read. The v2 surface now runs the full ledger-guarded v1-to-v2 import whenever the org's migration hasn't completed andlocal.dbstill holds v1 projects or workspaces, so affected users get those workspaces back on the next launch with no manual steps.Notes
local.dbstill only backfills groups, so v2-native users don't get v1 default presets imported.Written for commit 5d6a2e2. Summary will update on new commits.
